The Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of 33-year-old Nana Yaw Kyere, a well-known mobile phone dealer at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, whose partially burnt body was discovered near the motorway at Tema Community 18.
The suspects, identified as Philip Dzifa Kofi Tefe, Sarah Osei Adams, and Josiah Obodai, were apprehended following investigations by the Police Missing Persons Unit. They remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned as investigations continue.
How the Victim Was Lured
Preliminary investigations indicate that Kyere, popularly known as “Terry” or “Dinero” among traders at Circle, left his residence at Kokomlemle in Accra on September 19, 2026, in his Honda Civic vehicle but never returned. He was initially reported missing on September 22, 2026.
Police established that Kyere was lured to the residence of suspect Philip Tefe at Teshie Agbleza by suspect Sarah Osei Adams. Both suspects later confessed to their involvement, telling investigators that Tefe attacked Kyere during a confrontation, striking him with a metallic object and causing severe injuries. The victim was subsequently moved to another room, where he was left unattended and later died.
Body Dumped and Set Ablaze
Investigators further established that Kyere’s body was conveyed in a Kia Morning vehicle to a location near the motorway on September 20, 2026, where it was dumped in a bush and set ablaze. The partially burnt body was discovered at Community 18 on September 21, 2026.
The victim’s biological mother and an uncle formally identified the remains at the Police Hospital morgue on September 24, 2026.
iPhone Sold for GH¢100
Police also recovered Kyere’s iPhone 12, which suspect Philip Tefe allegedly sold for just GH¢100. The alleged buyer, identified as Sunday Omeje, has been cautioned and detained on suspicion of dishonestly receiving the phone.
Third Suspect Arrested Over Body Disposal
Further investigations led to the arrest of Josiah Obodai in connection with the disposal of the body. A Kia Morning vehicle belonging to his father, believed to have been used to transport the body, has been impounded.
Background: A Dealer Known Across Circle
Nana Yaw Kyere was a familiar figure in Accra’s bustling Kwame Nkrumah Circle commercial area, where he operated as a mobile phone dealer. Known by the street names “Terry” and “Dinero,” his disappearance and subsequent death have shocked fellow traders and family members alike.
Prior to the discovery of his body, concerns were heightened when unusual WhatsApp messages were reportedly sent from Kyere’s phone around midnight on the night of his disappearance. An associate received a message claiming that Terry had been “set up” by a girl in a room at Teshie, accompanied by a photograph of the room and his live location. The language and style of the messages did not match Kyere’s usual way of communicating, raising suspicions. At about 3:00 a.m., another message was reportedly sent claiming he had been released. The photograph and location were later deleted from the conversation.
Family members confirmed his death in a statement on September 24, 2026, expressing profound sadness and appealing for privacy. “It is with profound sadness that we share that, after his disappearance, Nana Yaw Kyere has been found. Regrettably, he was not found alive,” the family said.
Investigation Ongoing
The Ghana Police Service said its investigations are also aimed at identifying and arresting any other individuals who may have been involved in the case. The three suspects will be put before the court as investigations continue.
