Ghana government seeks review of Canadian decision ahead of Black Stars clash

The government of Ghana has initiated diplomatic engagement with Canada following an undisclosed decision by Canadian authorities that threatens to impact the Black Stars’ upcoming match on Wednesday.

Sports Minister Kofi Adams revealed on Saturday that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially written to Global Affairs Canada, requesting an avenue for a review of the decision before the national team takes to the pitch.

“The government of Ghana, through the Foreign Affairs Ministry, has written to Global Affairs Canada to create an avenue for a review of the decision before the Black Stars match on Wednesday,” Adams said in a statement.

While the exact nature of the Canadian decision remains unclear, sources indicate it could relate to travel clearances, visa approvals, or security protocols affecting players or technical staff. The Black Stars are scheduled to face international opponents in a high-stakes fixture, and any last-minute disruptions could derail preparations.

Adams expressed optimism that diplomatic channels would yield a swift resolution. “We trust that constructive dialogue will prevail in the interest of the game and the strong bilateral ties between Ghana and Canada,” he added.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is reportedly working closely with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to assess the potential impact of the decision. The GFA has yet to issue an official comment, stating it awaits further communication from government officials.

Fans have taken to social media to voice concern, urging authorities to ensure the team faces no unnecessary obstacles. Kickoff for Wednesday’s match is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time.

Further updates are expected following a response from Global Affairs Canada.
