Bishop Boxing promotions to sue to protect interest of boxers in Ghana

Ghanaian boxing promoter Bishop Boxing Promotions has issued a strongly worded legal notice to La Boma Beach Resort, accusing the venue of breaching a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and unilaterally pulling out of hosting the upcoming “Best of Bukom 3” boxing event, just days before the scheduled date.
In a letter dated May 4, 2026, solicitors Akpalu, Yartey & Associates, acting for Bishop Boxing Promotions, detailed how the two parties signed an MOU on March 24, 2026, for the resort to host the event on Saturday, May 9, 2026. Under the agreement, Bishop Boxing Promotions was responsible for event promotion, boxing production, securing fighters and regulatory approvals, broadcast coordination with IMAX TV, ticketing, and overall logistics. La Boma Beach Resort, represented by Business Development Manager Neelante Bruce, agreed to provide the venue, power, staffing, hospitality, security coordination, assistance with local permits, and support for on-site marketing.
According to the solicitors, Bishop Boxing Promotions has already invested “huge sums of funds” and fulfilled its obligations under the MOU. However, the resort allegedly failed to meet its commitments. The situation escalated on Sunday, May 3, when La Boma Beach Resort reportedly invited the promoter to a meeting and made clear its intention to opt out, effectively abrogating the agreement.
“All attempts by our Client to have the Hospitality Partner make good its obligation… have proven futile,” the letter states.
The solicitors have given La Boma Beach Resort 24 hours from receipt of the notice to call a meeting for an amicable settlement of the dispute. Failure to do so, they warned, will leave Bishop Boxing Promotions with no option but to pursue legal action to recover all expenses incurred, plus interest at the commercial bank lending rate from May 3, and damages for breach of contract and harm to the promoter’s business brand.
The “Best of Bukom 3” event was anticipated to be a major boxing showcase in the Greater Accra Region.
As of the time of this report, La Boma Beach Resort had not issued a public response to the allegations. Efforts to reach the resort’s management for comment were unsuccessful.
