Bishop Boxing Promotions has announced an emergency press briefing for today, May 5, at 2:30pm at Marsaw Media Headquarters in Tse Addo, Accra, over what it describes as a breakdown in partnership surrounding the upcoming Best of Bukom 3 event scheduled for May 8.
In a statement signed by President Dave Bishop and issued through legal counsel Solomon Kwatei Quartey of Akapalu, Yartey & Associates, the promotion said it met with representatives of RBS Promotions and LaBoma Beach Resort on May 3 to discuss the event. According to the statement, those partners abruptly renounced a previously agreed 50/50 partnership, citing dissatisfaction with a reggae concert held a day earlier. Bishop Boxing claims the partners then left the full organizational burden to them while still demanding 30% of the gate receipts, a demand it called “unreasonable and unacceptable.”
The statement further alleges that the partners insisted on delegating production to an “inexperienced, low-cost crew” and refused to allow Bishop Boxing’s standards for live television production to be implemented. Bishop Boxing says it had made clear from the outset that it would oversee full production to meet the professional requirements of a televised event of this scale.
Bishop Boxing has apologized to fighters, their families, and Ghanaian boxing supporters for the disruption, stating that athletes who prepare for months and depend on these shows for their livelihoods “deserve far better.” The promotion said it has given the other parties 24 hours to reverse their withdrawal and honor the original agreement, warning that failure to do so will result in legal action to protect the interests of Bishop Boxing Promotions and the boxers involved.
Best of Bukom 3 is set to take place on May 8. Further details are expected to be provided at today’s press briefing at Marsaw Media Headquarters on 9th Ave, Treasure Avenue Street, Accra.
