Three pharmacies suspended from NHIS over alleged fraud

The National Health Insurance Authority has suspended three pharmacies with immediate effect following the discovery of irregularities in claims and service transactions.

In a public notice issued on Thursday, May 14, 2026, the NHIA named the affected facilities as Deldem Pharma Limited at Iron City in Weija, Paramedica Pharmacy on Guggisberg Avenue in Ablekuma, and Desh Chemist on Odumase High Street in Amasaman.

The suspensions take effect from Thursday, May 14, 2026.

Routine verification uncovers irregularities

The authority said a routine claims verification exercise identified material irregularities in claims and service transactions linked to the three facilities, raising reasonable suspicion of fraud and abuse under the NHIS Provider Service Agreement.

During the suspension period, the pharmacies are barred from providing services or dispensing medicines under the National Health Insurance Scheme.

NHIS members requiring pharmaceutical services have been advised to seek care from other credentialed providers nationwide.

Criminal liability warning

The NHIA warned that any healthcare provider who defrauds or attempts to defraud the scheme commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine or imprisonment of up to ten years, or both.

Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority, signed the notice.

The authority reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the prudent use of public funds in delivering accessible healthcare to all residents of Ghana.
