In the days following the annual Met Gala, conversations have emerged among entertainment watchers comparing the public deportment and parenting styles surrounding two of the most famous children in pop culture: Blue Ivy Carter, 12, and North West, 10.
Blue Ivy, daughter of Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, accompanied her parents to the event, where she was noted for her composed and poised presence. Observers have pointed to her ease on the red carpet as reflective of what they describe as an actively involved, two-parent household introducing her to professional environments in fashion and music.
In contrast, North West, daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, has drawn different observations. Critics of her upbringing note that she frequently appears in social media content, including TikTok videos produced with her mother, which some describe as lacking educational or professional development value. Comments circulating online have characterized North’s behavior as “wild” and mature beyond her years, with some speculating that she exhibits signs of stress inconsistent with her age.
Custody filings from Kanye West, now known as Ye, have previously cited his desire to take a more active role in North’s education and daily routine. Public statements from Ye have argued that a more structured environment is necessary for her development. His legal team has not issued a new comment following the recent Met Gala.
Neither Kim Kardashian nor representatives for the West family have responded to the latest comparisons. Kardashian has publicly shared that she prioritizes her children’s privacy while balancing their exposure to entertainment and social media.
Child development experts not involved in either family caution against drawing conclusions from public appearances alone. Dr. Elena Marchetti, a clinical psychologist specializing in media and child behavior, told this outlet: “What we see on red carpets or TikTok is a curated fragment. No child’s upbringing or emotional state can be accurately judged from brief public moments.”
Nevertheless, the contrast between the two young public figures has reignited discussion about how wealth, fame and parenting approaches may shape a child’s readiness for adult environments.
Representatives for Beyoncé and Jay-Z did not respond to a request for comment.
