The Ashanti Regional Police Command has apprehended 12 suspects in a series of intelligence-led operations targeting robbery networks across the region, with three of the individuals reportedly connected to the murder of the Kusasi Chief at Asawase in Kumasi.
Among those arrested are Abdalah Alhassan, Jemini Usman (also known as Babamu), Aminu Iddrisu (0244), Illiasu Dauda, Majeed Issaka Jibril, Gafaru Ibrahim, Mohammed Mumuni alias Mama, Tanko Malik alias Bronze, Mohammed Bawa alias Mallam, Dramani Musah, Suleman Yasir Arafat alias Obasanjo, and Ashaidu Sumbieda alias Eyeshadow.
According to police sources, three suspects—Jamil Usman alias Babamu alias Guru, Suleman Yasir Arafat alias Obasanjo, and Ashaidu Sumbieda alias Eyeshadow—have been directly linked to the killing of the Asawase Kusasi Chief.
During the operations, authorities recovered a Toyota Corolla vehicle with registration number GC•439-21, believed to have been used by the suspects in their criminal activities.
Two other suspects, Illiasu Bawa and David Aheto, sustained gunshot wounds during the operation and were later pronounced dead, police confirmed in an official statement.
A significant cache of weapons and ammunition was seized, including:
· Two AK-47 assault rifles
· One pump-action gun
· Two pistols
· Forty-four rounds of .32 ammunition
· Twenty-four rounds of 9mm ammunition
Authorities have indicated that one additional suspect, identified as Illiasu alias Abodam, remains at large. Police have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend him and bring him to justice.
The arrests mark a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to curb violent crime in the Ashanti Region.
