Jamie Carragher blasts selfish Mohamed Salah: “It should be about Liverpool FC, not Salah FC”

Liverpool legend turned pundit Jamie Carragher has launched a scathing attack on Mohamed Salah, accusing the forward of deliberately destabilizing the club with a “selfish” post-match interview that he likened to Cristiano Ronaldo’s infamous departure from Manchester United.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher revealed he had been warning colleagues for weeks that Salah would “drop another bomb” before the season ended.

“I wasn’t surprised,” Carragher said. “I told everybody at Sky behind the scenes, and my friends who were Liverpool fans, I said Salah will drop another bomb before the end of the season. A little bit like what Ronaldo did on the way out of Manchester United.”

Salah’s latest comments, in which he hinted at an uncertain future at Anfield, come less than two years after Carragher famously called the Egyptian “selfish” for a previous high-profile interview. The pundit made clear his view has not changed.

“On this show less than two years ago, I called him selfish for doing an interview — and that rings true again,” Carragher said.

The timing of Salah’s remarks has infuriated Carragher, who pointed to a critical week ahead for Arne Slot’s side. Liverpool are still not mathematically qualified for the Champions League, with crucial fixtures looming.

“Liverpool have a really important week this week,” Carragher said. “Still not qualified for the Champions League — and it should be about Liverpool FC, not Salah FC. But unfortunately, it’s going to be about Mohamed Salah.”

Carragher had initially expected the forward to wait until the end of the season, once a potential departure had been finalised, before making such a public statement. Instead, he believes Salah has once again put his own future ahead of the team’s immediate needs.

The pundit’s intervention will pile further pressure on Salah, whose contract situation remains unresolved, and raises fresh questions about whether the forward’s relationship with the club — and its fanbase — is nearing a breaking point.
