I had my first abortion at 14, says Archbishop Agyinasare

Founder of Perez Chapel International, Archbishop Dr. Charles Agyinasare, has made a startling revelation about his teenage years, disclosing that he was involved in a pregnancy that ended in abortion when he was just 14 years old.

In a candid interview with Bola Ray on April 17, 2026, monitored by GhanaWeb, the renowned preacher opened up about what he described as a troubled and reckless youth prior to entering the ministry. He stated that the experience remains one of the defining moments of his early life.

According to the Archbishop, the pregnancy involved a girl who was approximately 16 years old at the time.

“I had my first abortion at the age of 14 with a girl who was about 16 years old. There were several girls in my life,” Archbishop Agyinasare said. He detailed a lifestyle marked by substance use, violence, and multiple relationships. “In fact, the girl who later led me to church was someone I was pursuing, and I was also interested in her senior sister. She told me her boyfriend was Jesus Christ,” he added.

The archbishop explained that his dramatic journey toward faith began not out of spiritual seeking, but out of romantic pursuit. He recalled attending church for the first time while trying to pursue a young woman he was interested in.

“So, I followed her to church. That day, I remember I was high on marijuana. I sat at the back, waiting for the service to end so I could take the girl along,” he recounted.

However, the service took an unexpected turn. “But for the first time in my life, there was an altar call for those who wanted to receive Jesus and repent of their sins,” he said. He noted that he responded to the call and repented, a decision that ultimately steered him away from his former lifestyle and toward a life of faith.

The interview also touched on contemporary politics, with the Archbishop recently claiming that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) failure to sign the anti-LGBTQ bill cost them the 2024 elections.
