Ghanaian Premier League giants Hearts of Oak are poised to receive a significant financial windfall of at least $250,000 following the inclusion of their goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, in Ghana’s final 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Asare, who has been a key figure for the Phobians, was named in the Black Stars’ final squad by head coach Carlos Queiroz. His selection triggers a payment from FIFA’s Club Benefits Program, which compensates clubs for the release of players to the World Cup.
Under the program, a portion of the tournament’s revenue is distributed to clubs based on the number of days a player spends at the World Cup. With the guaranteed participation fee for a player’s club sitting at approximately $10,000 per day, Asare’s expected six-week stay with the national team, including pre-tournament preparations, ensures Hearts of Oak will bank a minimum of $250,000.
The payment is a major financial boost for the Accra-based club, which will receive compensation directly from FIFA. The amount could increase further if Ghana progresses beyond the group stage, extending Asare’s time at the tournament.
Asare’s selection also marks a personal milestone, as the shot-stopper is one of the league’s standout performers this season. He is expected to compete for the starting goalkeeper role as Ghana prepares for its opening group match.
