GIPA takes investment drive to Northern Ghana, targets 128 projects for investors

The Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) has launched a 13-day investment roadshow across five northern regions, seeking to connect investors with 128 investment-ready projects ahead of the maiden Invest Ghana Summit in November.

The roadshow, running from October 11 to 23, 2026, will cover the Northern, North East, Upper East, Upper West, and Savannah regions. It forms part of GIPA’s Investment Opportunities Mapping Project (IOMP), launched in July 2025, which has identified more than 600 investment project profiles nationwide.

128 Projects Across Five Regions

Of the 600+ profiles, 128 came from the five northern regions, highlighting opportunities in agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, tourism, mining, renewable energy, logistics, and trade.

The Upper West Region recorded the highest number with 45 project profiles, followed by the Northern Region with 38, Savannah with 19, Upper East with 16, and North East with 10.

Historical data from GIPA shows that between 1994 and June 2026, the five regions attracted 100 registered investment projects with an estimated foreign direct investment value of US$1.91 billion, largely concentrated in agriculture and manufacturing. The Northern Region recorded the highest number of registered projects at 68, followed by Upper East with 14, while North East, Upper West, and Savannah recorded seven, six, and five projects respectively.

Roadshow Itinerary and Delegation

The delegation, led by GIPA Deputy Chief Executive Officer Abdul Razak Baba, will engage regional ministers, business leaders, and traditional authorities to explore investment opportunities and strengthen partnerships.

Traditional leaders expected to receive courtesy calls include the Paramount Chief of the Sagnarigu Traditional Area, Ambassador Abdulai Yakubu Yoo-Naa; the Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Nayiri Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga II; the Wa Naa, Rahid Fuseini Pelpuo; and the Overlord of the Savanna Region, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I.

The delegation will also visit selected investment sites and operating businesses, including Savannah Diamond Cement at Buipe and Baba Tree Company Limited in Wa, to assess existing investments and identify opportunities for expansion and collaboration.

GIPA’s Mandate and the Invest Ghana Summit

GIPA was established on July 15, 2026, when President John Dramani Mahama assented to the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority Act, 2026 (Act 1173), transforming the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre into the new authority with an expanded mandate to facilitate and regulate investments.

The roadshow is being organised in partnership with MTN Ghana, with support from the Office of the Chief of Staff, the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, the Ghana Free Zones Authority, the Ghana Enterprises Agency, the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, and the regional coordinating councils of the five regions.

The identified projects are expected to be showcased to potential investors at the Invest Ghana Summit, scheduled for November 16-17, 2026, at the Kempinski Hotel, Gold Coast City, in Accra, which is expected to bring together more than 2,000 local and global investors, diplomats, policymakers, and business leaders.

‘A Destination of Opportunity’

GIPA Chief Executive Officer Simon Madjie said the five regions had significant investment potential in commercial agriculture, agro-processing, livestock, renewable energy, tourism, manufacturing, mining, logistics, and cross-border trade.

“Northern Ghana is no longer a frontier of potential. It is a destination of opportunity,” Madjie said. “Through this roadshow, we are taking investment opportunities directly to the market, building strategic partnerships and creating pathways for investors to take part in the region’s transformation”.

He added that linking project identification with direct engagement with investors was expected to help attract investment to underserved regions and promote more balanced economic growth.
