In a strategic move to reinforce the sport’s development framework across the country, the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) has officially constituted a new five-member Technical Committee and appointed a dedicated Operations Manager. The appointments, effective immediately, were confirmed in an official notice dated 27th August 2026, addressed to Member Regional Associations (MRAs).
The directive, issued by GTF Secretary General Kankpenuba Peter Nuntaa Wisdom on behalf of the Executive Board, underscores the federation’s commitment to professionalizing its administrative and technical structures. This development follows a recent series of leadership initiatives aimed at positioning Ghana Taekwondo for the 2026–2030 development cycle and beyond.
New Technical Leadership Under Simon Gluikpor
Heading the new technical dispensation is Mr. Simon Gluikpor, who assumes the role of Technical Director and Chairman of the Technical Committee. Mr. Gluikpor is a seasoned martial arts tactician with a distinguished background as a former national-level competitor and an internationally certified referee. His primary mandate is to provide strategic technical leadership and guidance, working directly with the Executive Board, Regional Associations, coaches, referees, and athletes to elevate the standard of Taekwondo performance nationwide.
Joining him on the newly constituted Technical Committee are:

The committee has been tasked with a comprehensive portfolio aimed at technical development, including athlete development pathways, coaching standards, competition management, and the maintenance of technical benchmarks. The GTF has directed the committee to work in close collaboration with Regional Associations and clubs to ensure the successful implementation of these programmes in all ten regions.
Operations Management Appointed
In a parallel appointment designed to bolster the federation’s logistical efficiency, Mr. David Addotey has been appointed as Operations Manager. Mr. Addotey’s responsibilities encompass a broad range of operational duties, including the custody and management of equipment, inventory and asset control, event logistics, and the supervision of equipment distribution and retrieval. He will also oversee storage and maintenance protocols, ensuring the federation’s assets are managed with professional accountability.
Strategic Context and Future Outlook
These appointments form part of a broader structural overhaul by the GTF under the leadership of President Frederick Lartey Otu. This strategic realignment is intended to strengthen leadership capacity and operational structures ahead of a crucial period for the sport. The federation has recently unveiled an extensive slate of developmental initiatives, including a National Coach Licence Course and a World Taekwondo International Coach Licence Course, alongside plans for major domestic and international tournaments to showcase Ghana’s elite athletes.
Furthermore, these developments coincide with a renewed focus on high-performance athlete development. The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), with which the GTF is affiliated, has recently awarded Olympic Solidarity scholarships to promising Taekwondo athletes, including Henrietta Naa Ayele Armah, who is currently undergoing advanced training in Germany as part of preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games.
Call for Cooperation
The GTF Executive Board has called upon all Regional Associations, affiliated clubs, coaches, and relevant officials to extend their full cooperation to the newly appointed officers. The Board congratulated the appointees and expressed its confidence in their ability to usher in a new era of professional excellence for Ghana Taekwondo.
The Ghana Taekwondo Federation serves as the sole governing authority for the sport in Ghana. Taekwondo was officially recognized in the country in 1978, with the GTF affiliating with World Taekwondo in 1981. The federation is also affiliated with the African Taekwondo Union, the Commonwealth Taekwondo Union, and the Ghana Olympic Committee.
