The Acting Chairman of the Ghana-China Business Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Liu Wen Min, has held productive talks with the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams, at the minister’s office in Accra, with a focus on bolstering the Black Stars’ preparations for the upcoming World Cup.
The high-level meeting explored avenues for mutual cooperation between Ghana and China, with both parties expressing a strong commitment to establishing a win-win partnership that benefits the two nations.
Traditional Medicine Offer for Mohammed Kudus
In a significant development for Ghana’s flagship football team, Mr. Liu Wen Min pledged to provide comprehensive medical services to the Black Stars. He specifically offered to engage a top Chinese traditional medicine practitioner to treat the hamstring injury of key Black Stars player Mohammed Kudus, whose fitness has been a major concern for the team’s technical handlers.
The Acting Chairman further assured that Chinese traditional medicine experts would be made available to address injury-related challenges affecting Black Stars players and other national team athletes, aiming to keep the country’s sportsmen and women in peak condition throughout their campaigns.
Minister’s Appeals for Equipment and Infrastructure
Expressing gratitude for Mr. Liu’s visit and generous medical offer, Minister Kofi Iddie Adams seized the opportunity to request additional forms of support from the Chamber. He appealed for the provision of essential resources including apparel, sports equipment, and kits for Ghana’s various national teams.
The Minister went further to request the construction of an ultra-modern, state-of-the-art gymnasium dedicated to boxing—a sport in which Ghana has a rich history—as well as the development of modern sports centres across the country.
Recognising China’s world-class prowess in table tennis, Mr. Adams made a specific plea: “We know China plays table tennis very well, and I will like to appeal to your outfit to help us acquire table tennis balls, boards, rackets, and other ping pong equipment for our locals here.”
He also raised the longstanding challenge faced by Ghana’s sports associations in easily acquiring sports equipment and kits for national team players and athletes, urging the Chamber to facilitate solutions.
Commitment to Action
In response, Mr. Liu Wen Min assured the Minister that he would personally see to the requests, reaffirming the Chamber’s dedication to deepening Ghana-China cooperation in the sports sector.
The meeting concluded on a hopeful note, with both leaders looking forward to a sustained partnership that will not only enhance Ghana’s performance on the international sports stage but also strengthen the bonds of friendship and commerce between Ghana and China.
