FIFA unveils star-studded lineup for 2026 World Cup opening ceremonies

FIFA has officially confirmed the roster of international artists who will headline the opening ceremonies for the first matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026, with distinct celebratory events planned across the three host nations: Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

The tournament, which will be the first to feature 48 teams across three countries, will kick off with a trio of opening-day spectacles designed to showcase the diverse musical heritage of North America.

Mexico: A Fusion of Rock, Regional, and Global Beats

At the Mexican opener, fans will be treated to a lineup blending legendary rock and contemporary Latin pop. Rock band Maná, regional Mexican icon Alejandro Fernández, and pop star Belinda will share the stage with the cumbia giants Los Ángeles Azules. In a cross-continental surprise, South African Afro-pop sensation Tyla has also been added to the Mexican ceremony, signaling FIFA’s push for global genre fusion.

United States: Pop, Hip-Hop, and International Flavor

The United States’ opening ceremony promises a high-energy mix of mainstream pop and hip-hop. Pop superstar Katy Perry and rapper Future lead the American slate, alongside electronic producer Sanjoy. K-pop phenomenon LISA (of BLACKPINK fame) will bring her global fanbase to the U.S. stage, while Argentine singer-songwriter Marilina Bogado adds a distinctive rock and cumbia alternative touch.

Canada: A Homage to Homegrown Vocal Power

Canada’s opening ceremony will focus on deep national talent, featuring three powerhouse voices. Crooner Michael Bublé, alt-rock icon Alanis Morissette, and Juno-winning pop singer Alessia Cara will represent the country’s musical spectrum, prioritizing lyric-driven performances without international guest additions.

Global Artist Pool Announced

Beyond the host-nation headliners, FIFA has confirmed a secondary roster of artists who will participate in various celebration matches and festival events throughout the tournament. This international ensemble includes:

· J Balvin (Colombia)
· Anitta (Brazil)
· Danny Ocean (Venezuela)
· Elyanna (Palestine/Chile)
· Vegedream (France/Ivory Coast)
· Jessie Reyez (Canada)
· Nora Fatehi (Canada/Morocco)
· William Prince (Canada)

These additional artists are expected to perform at halftime shows, fan festivals, and closing segments across the three nations, with FIFA promising that the 2026 World Cup will deliver “the most musically diverse celebration in the tournament’s history.”

The specific match dates and venue assignments for the opening ceremonies are expected to be finalized during the official draw later this year.
