Oswal Investment Limited has assured commuters that the first lane of the 27.8-kilometre Dodowa-Afienya-Dawhenya road will be completed and opened to traffic by December 2026, providing significant relief along a corridor that has long been plagued by dusty and untarred conditions .
Speaking during a briefing at the company’s Oyibi camp site, Group Chairman Humphrey Awuletey-Williams revealed that the overall project is currently 62 per cent complete. He explained that once the first lane from Dodowa Junction to Afienya Junction is opened, traffic will be diverted onto the new asphalt surface, immediately easing daily difficulties for commuters and allowing work to progress on the second lane of the single carriageway.
“The move will ease the daily difficulties faced by commuters and pave the way for work to begin on the second lane,” the contractor stated. Mr. Awuletey-Williams further urged President John Dramani Mahama to prepare to commission the first lane upon its completion .
The assurance came during an inspection led by the Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, who was accompanied by engineers from his ministry and the Ghana Highway Authority to assess progress on the road project and the dualisation of the 22-kilometre Adentan-Dodowa road .
Project Background and Scope
The Dodowa-Afienya-Dawhenya road project, which commenced in December 2025 and is scheduled for full completion in December 2027, represents a major infrastructure investment for the Greater Accra Region . The scope includes:
· A 20.8-kilometre single-carriageway asphaltic concrete road with shoulders and walkways
· Four kilometres of dual carriageway at the Dodowa, Afienya, and Dawhenya junctions
· A 40-metre-span, four-lane concrete bridge over the River Detsedor at Afienya
Additional components include eight major box culverts, 28 pipe culverts, and 28.7 kilometres of concrete U-drains of varying sizes, alongside a 550-metre storm drain and a 40-metre outfall concrete-lined channel .
When completed, the road is expected to serve as a critical link between Dodowa, Afienya, and Dawhenya, improving the movement of goods between Accra and surrounding districts while reducing travel times significantly. The project will also help take traffic off the choked Dawhenya road, redirecting vehicles through Community 25 towards the Accra-Tema Motorway .
The “Big Push” Initiative
The project forms part of President Mahama’s flagship “Big Push” infrastructure programme, which represents the largest investment in Ghana’s road sector in history. Under this ambitious initiative, 50 major road projects spanning 1,144 kilometres are currently underway at an estimated cost of GH¢50 billion, alongside the completion of 23 inherited road contracts covering 573 kilometres at a cost of GH¢15 billion .
President Mahama has described the initiative as opening economic corridors, creating jobs, and reducing the cost of doing business, declaring that “the whole of Ghana is going to become a construction site” as works intensify nationwide .

The project, which commenced in March 2024 and is expected to be completed in March 2027, will comprise two-by-four lanes over eight kilometres, two-by-three lanes over six kilometres, and two-by-two lanes over eight kilometres on completion .
The upgrade will include seven roundabouts, 23 major intersections, two footbridges, service lanes, adequate drainage structures, pedestrian walkways, and street lighting to improve visibility and safety for night-time travel. Described as Regional Route 40, the road provides a vital connection from Accra through Frafraha, Amrahia, Oyibi, Dodowa, Ayikuma, and Agomeda, facilitating trade and travel between the Greater Accra, Eastern, and Volta regions .

After the presentation, Minister Agbodza expressed satisfaction with the quality of work being executed by Oswal Investment Limited, commending the contractor for its commitment and adherence to timelines . The government has emphasized its priority on supporting local contractors, with President Mahama specifically praising Oswal as “one of our best local contractors” who works “with speed” while maintaining quality standards .
