Bishop Boxing Promotions has made a decisive move ahead of its May 8 showcase, appointing Kyel “The Coach” Governor as Chief Boxing Development Officer to drive the promotion’s next phase of growth.
An international coach with over a decade of experience across Toronto, Ottawa, and Chicago, Governor brings a development-first approach rooted in fundamentals, discipline, and high-performance preparation. He most recently coached a Golden Gloves-winning fighter in Wisconsin and now turns his focus to building a new generation of fighters in Ghana.
In his role, Governor will oversee fighter evaluation systems, design structured fight camps, and work directly with athletes and coaches to raise the overall standard of competition within the promotion.
“I’m here to build fighters the right way,” Governor said. “Smart, disciplined, and prepared for anything. Fundamentals first—footwork, balance, conditioning. That’s what separates a fighter from a boxer.”
Recruited by promoter Dave Bishop, the partnership signals a clear ambition: to identify, develop, and position Ghanaian talent to compete on the global stage.
Governor officially joined the promotion on April 18, 2026, and will begin rolling out fighter evaluation sessions in the coming weeks. His arrival also aligns with his broader mission in Ghana, where he is preparing to launch Gus’s Champions Boxing School in Sunyani—focused on developing both athletes and coaches through a structured, high-performance system.
