The Ablekuma North Constituency in the Greater Accra Region is witnessing a remarkable transformation, with the Member of Parliament, Hon. Ewurabena Aubynn, spearheading major infrastructure and education projects that are reshaping the lives of residents.
Since her historic victory in the July 2025 parliamentary rerun—where she polled 34,090 votes to end the New Patriotic Party’s 28-year hold on the seat—the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP has moved swiftly to address the key challenges she identified during her campaign: flooding, sanitation, and bad roads.
Infrastructure surge across Kwashiebu and beyond
In January 2026, Aubynn undertook an inspection tour of ongoing drainage and road construction projects across the constituency. She inspected active drainage works at Kwashiebu, Been-To and Awoshie, where contractors are constructing and rehabilitating drains to improve water flow and curb the perennial flooding that has plagued these communities for years. Engineers on site briefed the MP on the scope of the works, which include desilting, construction of concrete drains and related road improvements.
Residents of Kwashiebu—who endured poor roads for over seven years—are now witnessing a dramatic change. The Municipal Chief Executive for Ablekuma North, Hon. Adamu Musah Kalamu, recently described the area as a “massive construction site,” noting that for years, the community did not have a single tarred road.
Addressing residents during her inspection tour, Aubynn assured constituents of her commitment to equitable development across all 14 areas within Ablekuma North. “We are taking a phased approach to ensure that communities with the most urgent needs are attended to, while planning ahead for others,” she said. She disclosed that similar road and drainage works are expected to commence soon in suburbs such as Darkuman, Odorkor and other communities.
Education: Supporting the next generation
Beyond infrastructure, Aubynn has made education a cornerstone of her development agenda. In a heartfelt initiative aimed at empowering future leaders, she distributed essential back-to-school items—including trunks, mattresses, exercise books and mathematical sets—to fresh Senior High School students across the constituency.
The MP described the donation as “more than just material support; it is a tangible investment in the dreams and academic potential of our youth,” noting that alleviating the financial burden on parents ensures students can return to the classroom with confidence.
In January 2026, Aubynn also donated over 3,000 tables and chairs to public schools across the constituency, including Wesley Grammar Senior High School, the only second-cycle institution in Ablekuma North. The gesture aims to ease the persistent shortage of classroom furniture that continues to affect teaching and learning.
“Education is the foundation of national development. When children lack basic furniture, it affects their health, confidence, and ability to learn,” Aubynn said. The Headmistress of Wesley Grammar SHS, Madam Barbara Juliet Tekyiwaa Thompson, thanked the MP for what she described as a timely and impactful intervention.
Broader development agenda
Aubynn’s development push extends beyond roads and education. In February 2026, she broke ground for a new community clinic in Kwashiebu to expand access to quality healthcare services. She has also commissioned a renovated ultra-modern ICT laboratory at Odorkor Saleria 1 under the One Million Coders Programme, and reinforced the government’s National Apprenticeship Programme with the presentation of essential tools and equipment to apprentices.
The MP’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. In May 2026, the Ghana Statistical Service recognised Ablekuma North as the best-performing district among Ghana’s 261 districts in the 2025 Multidimensional Poverty Index rankings, recording an average poverty headcount of 8.5 percent.
