NPP Minority Leader urges action, unity as party rebuilds after election loss

The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to move from lamentation to decisive action as the party works to rebuild following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.

In a Christmas message to party supporters on December 25, 2025, Mr. Afenyo-Markin said the time for sympathy is over, and the party must now show seriousness, discipline, and unity in preparing for the future.

“My dear patriots, the time for sympathy has passed, and the time for action has now arrived,” he said.

He highlighted that the election loss revealed crucial lessons, particularly the importance of unity in achieving electoral success, and urged members to let this lesson guide their conduct moving forward.

“As a party, we should have learned an important lesson: unity is worth fighting and sacrificing for. The pursuit of unity leads to victory. These lessons must now guide our choices, conversations, and actions,” he added.

According to the Minority Leader, the NPP is at a defining moment, and how members behave in the coming period will shape the party’s strength and credibility both internally and in the eyes of the Ghanaian public.

He also addressed lingering public doubts about the party’s readiness to govern, urging members to respond with responsible action rather than rhetoric.

“Observers have repeatedly questioned whether our party is ready for power. Let us show them the answer is a resounding yes — not just in words, but through our actions,” Mr. Afenyo-Markin emphasised.

Touching on the upcoming flagbearer primaries, he appealed to supporters to protect the NPP’s values and heritage, cautioning against actions that could weaken the party’s foundations.

“As we prepare for our upcoming flagbearer primaries, let us treat our party and its traditions as sacred. What our forebearers built with their sweat and blood, let no member put asunder,” he concluded.
