Obuasi police arrest 40 suspects in early-morning raids on crime and drug hideouts

The Obuasi Police Command has arrested 40 individuals following coordinated early-morning raids on locations believed to be hideouts for criminals and drug peddlers in Obuasi and surrounding communities.

The operation, carried out on Monday, December 16, 2025, between 5:00 a.m. and 10:20 a.m., was led by ASP Adam Muakalu and involved officers from the Divisional Operations Unit, Obuasi District, and the Formed Police Unit (FPU) Obuasi Base.

According to a police report, the exercise targeted several areas, including Bedieso, Kunka Junction, Abompe, and Akaporiso, all suburbs of Obuasi.

At Bedieso, eight suspects were arrested, and police recovered dried leaves suspected to be cannabis from a black polythene bag behind the spot where the arrests were made. At Kunka Junction, one suspect was caught with a wrapped package of similar dried leaves, and 11 more suspects who tried to flee were apprehended.

In Abompe, police arrested several individuals allegedly smoking in a ghetto, seizing two bottles of alcohol suspected to be laced with cannabis. The operation extended to Akaporiso, where officers recovered more dried leaves suspected to be cannabis and made further arrests near an uncompleted building where suspects were allegedly smoking and drinking. A pack of tramadol was also seized during the exercise.

All 40 suspects are in police custody assisting with investigations, and all seized items are being held for forensic examination. Those found with illegal substances will be arraigned in court as soon as possible.

Detective Chief Inspector Odoom Stephen of the District Criminal Investigations Department (DCID), Obuasi, assured the public that the police will continue sustained operations to curb criminal activities and improve safety in the municipality.
