Parliament is set to adjourn sine die on Friday, December 19, 2025, for the Christmas and New Year holidays, the Majority Leader and NDC MP for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has announced.
While presenting the Business Statement for the ninth week ending Friday, December 19, 2025, on the floor of Parliament last Friday, Mr. Ayariga, who is also Chairman of the Business Committee, urged Chairpersons of Committees to handle all pending referrals urgently and report on them without delay.
The Majority Leader, who also serves as Leader of Government Business, commended the Speaker, Deputy Speakers, and all MPs for their dedication and commitment to the business of the House throughout the meeting.
“The Committee looks forward to a smooth discharge of the business proposed for the last week of the meeting before the House adjourns sine die,” he added.
Questions
During the week under review, eight Ministers of State are scheduled to appear before Parliament to answer a total of 41 questions. The ministers include the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Minister of State in Charge of Public Sector Reforms, Minister of Roads and Highways, Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, and Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.
Statements and business
Mr. Ayariga noted that, in line with Order 91(2), Ministers of State would also be allowed to make statements on government policies, while MPs’ statements may be admitted pursuant to Order 93.
He added that bills, papers, and reports would be presented for first reading under Order 159, with urgent matters potentially taken through all stages in a single day under Order 160.
“Pursuant to Order 97, papers may be laid during the week, and Committee reports may also be presented for consideration. Motions may be debated, and any consequential resolutions taken during the week,” Mr. Ayariga stated.
