The Ghanaian Embassy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has issued a strong official warning to all citizens preparing for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage, cautioning against drug possession, money laundering, illegal entry, and any violation of Saudi Arabian laws.
In a statement released on Monday, the Embassy reminded prospective pilgrims that Hajj, scheduled to take place between May 1 and May 20, 2026, is a sacred spiritual obligation that must be undertaken in full compliance with the host country’s regulations.
The warning emphasized that Saudi Arabia enforces extremely strict laws on drug-related offences and financial crimes. Any pilgrim found in possession of, trafficking, or concealing prohibited drugs, or engaging in money laundering, will face immediate arrest, prosecution, and severe penalties under Saudi law.
“The Embassy will not countenance any conduct that seeks to tarnish the image of Ghana,” the statement read. “Any person who engages in such acts will bear full personal responsibility for the consequences.”
Pilgrims were strongly advised to exercise utmost vigilance and avoid associating with individuals who might involve them in illegal activities. The Embassy specifically warned against carrying luggage, money, or items on behalf of others without proper verification, noting that such actions could lead to serious legal consequences.
The statement also cautioned against attempting to perform Hajj through unauthorized means, including the use of visiting visas or illegal travel arrangements. Violations of Saudi entry and residency rules will result in arrest, detention, prosecution, deportation, and possible long-term or permanent entry bans.
All Ghanaian pilgrims are directed to:
· Travel strictly through approved and recognized Hajj arrangements
· Ensure all travel documents are valid and specifically issued for Hajj purposes
· Refrain from carrying money, luggage, or items for third parties without verification
· Obey constituted authorities and adhere to laid-down procedures
· Conduct themselves with discipline, responsibility, and dignity as ambassadors of Ghana
The Embassy, led by H.E. Alhaji Said Sinare, reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a safe, orderly, and spiritually fulfilling Hajj for all Ghanaian pilgrims.
The warning was issued in the interest of national dignity, public safety, and the sanctity of the Hajj pilgrimage.
