Construction of TVET Centre of excellence underway in Salaga

Construction has officially commenced on a new Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Centre of Excellence in Salaga, marking a significant step toward enhancing skills development and driving economic growth in the Savannah Region.

The project, spearheaded by the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training under the Ministry of Education, aims to equip young people with practical, industry-relevant skills to align with the demands of Ghana’s evolving job market.

Member of Parliament for Salaga South Constituency, Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, recently conducted an inspection of the project site, expressing satisfaction with the pace of work. She underscored the facility’s potential to transform the lives of youth in her constituency and the broader region.

“This is a critical investment in human capital development,” the MP stated. “It will create significant opportunities for skills training, employment, and entrepreneurship.”

Designed as a Centre of Excellence, the facility will prioritize competency-based training over conventional classroom instruction. Key program areas will include Electrical Installation and Automation, Renewable Energy and Electronics, Automotive Technology and Autotronics, Information and Communication Technology, Food Processing, Garment Making, and Woodworking.

The project is being executed through a turnkey partnership between the Government of Ghana and De Lorenzo, a globally recognized Italian firm specializing in technical education infrastructure. The agreement encompasses the design, construction, and installation of modern laboratories and training equipment.

To ensure long-term sustainability, the project also includes a comprehensive Training of Trainers program aimed at building the capacity of local instructors to operate and maintain the facility to international standards. The MP noted that the centre will produce graduates who are not only job-ready but also capable of contributing to Ghana’s industrialization agenda.

For the Savannah Region—where youth unemployment and limited access to technical education remain pressing challenges—the centre is expected to play a pivotal role in improving livelihoods and promoting inclusive economic growth. The initiative has garnered strong support from traditional authorities, local leadership, and education sector stakeholders.

Project Consultant Felix Boateng provided an update on the construction progress, stating that work is currently about 25 percent complete. He expressed confidence that the project will be delivered within eight months, with completion expected between July and August 2026.

“We are committed to ensuring the project is handed over as scheduled,” Mr. Boateng said, reaffirming the dedication of all stakeholders to a timely completion.
