The Kadjebi District Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old farmer in connection with the brutal killing of an 80-year-old woman in the Oti Region. The suspect, Chalim Madzaton, also known as Peter Tano, is accused of attacking his girlfriend and her elderly mother at their residence in Mangoase, near Kadjebi.
According to a police press release issued on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, Madzaton was apprehended at a hideout in Kpaya, a suburb of Ahamansu, following an intelligence-led operation.
The incident occurred on March 24, 2026. Police reports indicate that the suspect attacked his 55-year-old girlfriend, Yaa Tugbenyo, and her mother, Dakolor Semaka, at their home. Ms. Tugbenyo managed to escape during the assault but later returned to find her mother lying motionless on the floor.
Officers who responded to the scene discovered the body of the deceased lying on her back with visible signs of violence. The scene was processed, and photographs were taken to aid in the investigation.
A medical officer at St Mary Theresa Hospital subsequently confirmed Ms. Semaka’s death. Her body has been deposited at the hospital’s morgue pending an autopsy.
Madzaton remains in police custody and is expected to be arraigned before court to face charges.
