Former President John Mahama paid solemn tribute to the memory of enslaved Africans earlier today, leading a wreath-laying ceremony at the African Burial Ground National Monument.
The event, which underscored the enduring legacy of those who suffered under slavery, brought together a gathering of prominent political and civil rights figures. Among those in attendance were New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and veteran civil rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton.
The three leaders joined in commemorating the lives and contributions of the enslaved ancestors interred at the historic site, a sacred space that stands as a reminder of the brutality of slavery and the resilience of the African spirit.
