Operations at the Tamale Central Hospital, commonly known as the Northern Regional Hospital, have been disrupted following an industrial action by casual workers protesting five months of unpaid salaries.
The aggrieved workers have vowed to stay away from their posts until the government settles their outstanding wages, stating that their inability to receive payment has made it difficult for them to meet their basic needs.
The strike has taken a toll on the hospital’s environment. According to reports, overflowing bins and a strong stench emanating from washrooms across various sectionsโincluding the Childrenโs Ward, Male Ward, and Maternity Wardโhave raised serious concerns among patients and remaining health workers.
As of the time of this report, management of the facility has not issued an official statement regarding the situation. The industrial action highlights the ongoing challenges casual staff face in public health institutions, where delays in salary payments continue to affect service delivery.
