The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has urged party members to focus on a candidate’s ability to win the 2028 general election, rather than personal relationships or family ties, in the upcoming NPP primaries.
The party is set to go to the polls in two weeks to elect a flagbearer who will lead it into the 2028 elections.
Chairman Wontumi made the remarks on Saturday, January 17, during Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign tour of the Ejura Sekyedumase Constituency. He emphasised that Dr Bawumia is the candidate best positioned to secure electoral victory for the party.
“If it is power that we want, then it shouldn’t be about the relationships we have with people, but about the person who can help us win the 2028 election,” he said, urging delegates to prioritise electability over personal considerations.
