In a candid interview with Time Magazine, U.S. Men’s National Team captain Christian Pulisic revealed his ongoing struggle to maintain a healthy work-life balance, and expressed deep gratitude toward his former girlfriend, Alexa Melton, for pushing him beyond his rigid routines.
The AC Milan and USMNT forward admitted that his single-minded focus on performance has been both a strength and a source of personal hardship.
“I have a very specific way of thinking about performance, and I’ve always wanted to be closer to the training ground, because that’s my work, and that’s what I do every single day,” Pulisic said. “It’s helped me in a lot of ways. It has also made me miserable at times.”
Pulisic credited Melton, from whom he has since split, for helping him break out of his comfort zone. The pair were first linked in 2022.
“She was a lot of fun, and she supported me in every way,” he said. “She wanted to push me to enjoy my life a little bit more and do things with her and do things just in general. And I was grateful for that.”
Despite the end of their relationship, Pulisic emphasized he holds no ill will, describing her only in the most positive terms.
“I only look at her in the most positive way,” he added.
The interview offers a rare glimpse into the mental and emotional challenges faced by the 26-year-old star, as he balances elite-level expectations with the need for personal fulfillment away from the pitch.
