The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Law School has conferred a Lifetime Achievement in Law Award on renowned legal practitioner Tsatsu Tsikata, recognising his distinguished career, teaching contributions, and enduring impact on Ghana’s legal landscape.

The award, presented during the third edition of the UPSA Law School’s Honorific Lecture and Award series, celebrated Mr Tsikata’s decades of service in constitutional development, public interest advocacy, and legal academia. The ceremony also acknowledged his role in shaping generations of legal practitioners and scholars both in Ghana and internationally.

The event attracted a high-profile audience, including members of the Bench and Bar, academia, the diplomatic corps, and other key stakeholders. Vice-President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang was among the dignitaries present, alongside prominent figures such as Francis Emile Short, Anna Bossman, Joshua Alabi, George Akilakpa Sawyerr, and Larry Gbevlo-Lartey.

Paying tribute, former Attorney-General Betty Mould-Iddrisu described Mr Tsikata as a symbol of resilience and excellence, noting that his career has been defined by an unwavering commitment to justice and the rule of law. She highlighted his steadfastness in the face of personal and professional challenges, including periods of ill health and legal battles, emphasising that his belief in due process never wavered.

She further stated that such conviction demonstrates the importance of trust in legal institutions, which she described as essential for sustaining democratic governance and political leadership. Mrs Mould-Iddrisu also noted that Mr Tsikata’s influence extends beyond courtroom advocacy to mentorship and intellectual engagement, inspiring many to approach legal practice with rigour, honesty, and ethical responsibility.

The Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, also commended the veteran lawyer, stating that the recognition was well deserved.

“Excellence in law is achieved through sustained dedication over time,” the Chief Justice said.

He noted that Mr Tsikata’s contributions have left a lasting imprint on Ghana’s jurisprudence and the development of legal thought, urging young lawyers to emulate his discipline, commitment, and ethical grounding.

The Chief Justice added that Mr Tsikata’s legacy remains an enduring source of inspiration, reinforcing the principles of justice, accountability, and the rule of law.
