Trump announces major shift in Iran policy, claims agreement reached to destroy nuclear stockpile and reopen Hormuz Strait

Trump Announces Major Shift in Iran Policy, Claims Agreement Reached to Destroy Nuclear Stockpile and Reopen Hormu In a sweeping social media post published Saturday, President Donald J. Trump announced a dramatic breakthrough in diplomatic and military relations with Iran, outlining a detailed plan to remove naval blockades, clear the Strait of Hormuz of mines, and neutralize what he described as Iran’s buried “Nuclear Dust.”

The post, which reads as a direct address to the Iranian people and their leadership, claims that a new agreement has been reached regarding the destruction of Iran’s enriched nuclear materials.

“Iran must agree that they will never have a Nuclear Weapon or Bomb,” Trump wrote. “The Hormuz Strait must be immediately open, no tolls, for unrestricted shipping traffic, in both directions.”

The President’s statement describes an aggressive, multi-national operation to clear waterways. He noted that the U.S. Navy has already deployed “underwater mine sweepers” and that Iran has agreed to assist in the “immediate removal and/or detonation of any mines that are left.”

Trump specifically addressed the crews of vessels currently caught in the strait, stating that the naval blockade—previously described as “amazing and unprecedented”—will now be lifted. “Say HELLO to your wives, husbands, parents, and families from me, your favorite President!” he wrote.

‘Nuclear Dust’ and B-2 Bomber Strikes

Perhaps the most significant claim in the post concerns the fate of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. The President alleged that a powerful B-2 Bomber attack carried out 11 months ago resulted in the collapse of underground mountains, burying enriched material referred to as “Nuclear Dust.”

According to the post, the United States—identified by Trump as the “only Country, along with China, with the mechanical capability of doing so”—will now unearth that material in conjunction with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

“The enriched material… sitting on top of it, will be unearthed… and DESTROYED,” Trump wrote. He added that “No money will be exchanged, until further notice.”

The post concludes with the President stating that “other items, of far less importance, have been agreed to” before announcing he was headed to the Situation Room “to make a final determination.”

Reactions and Context

The announcement comes as a shock to geopolitical observers, as Trump’s administration has spent months tightening sanctions and naval restrictions around the Strait of Hormuz, a vital chokepoint for global oil supplies. The implication that China is involved in the destruction of Iranian nuclear materials marks a significant departure from traditional Western-led nuclear diplomacy.

Neither the Iranian government nor the IAEA has issued a formal response to the President’s claims at this hour. Military analysts are questioning the timeline of the alleged B-2 strike 11 months ago, which has not been previously confirmed by Pentagon press briefings.
