Three arrested in Accra drug bust as Police seize cocaine, money

The Ghana Police Service has arrested three individuals following an intelligence-led operation targeting a suspected drug distribution network in Accra.

Acting on a tip-off received by the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police, authorities were alerted that a group planned to sell narcotics at Dzorwulu. On April 11, police surveillance teams arrested Bright Ayivor and Ifeanyi Ijeoba, who were found in possession of 22 compressed substances believed to be cocaine, reportedly prepared for sale to a prospective buyer.

Further interrogations led investigators to a third suspect, Kwabena Botwe, described as a key figure in the alleged operation. A follow-up operation at Caprice led to his arrest after officers monitored a planned transaction involving proceeds from the suspected drug trade.

A subsequent search at Botwe’s residence in Greda Estates uncovered GH¢400,000 in cash and a money-counting machine. Police say the suspect also attempted to bribe officers with an additional GH¢420,000 during the operation — an amount which has since been retained as evidence.

All three suspects are in custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned soon.

The arrests are part of intensified police efforts to clamp down on narcotics trafficking and related criminal activities in the capital.
