Salah out for rest of season with hamstring tear, says Egypt official

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah will play no further part in the remainder of the season after suffering a hamstring tear in Saturday’s 3-1 Premier League victory over Crystal Palace, according to Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan.

The 33-year-old Egyptian winger, who has announced he will leave the reigning Premier League champions when his contract expires at the end of the season, applauded the Anfield crowd as he walked off injured in the 60th minute.

Liverpool have not issued an update on Salah’s condition, but Hassan told Reuters the forward has played his last game for the Reds.

“He has suffered a hamstring tear and will require four weeks of treatment,” Hassan said.

After nine trophy-filled seasons on Merseyside, Salah’s farewell will now be marked by words rather than goals. He is expected to address supporters following the final home game of the season against Brentford on May 24.

Liverpool have four league fixtures remaining: away to Manchester United on May 3, at home to Chelsea on May 9, at Aston Villa on May 17, and the Brentford clash.

Salah, Liverpool’s third-highest goalscorer of all time, has recorded 12 goals and nine assists across all competitions this season.

Hassan said Salah will be fit for the 2026 World Cup, where Egypt face Belgium, New Zealand and Iran in Group G. The tournament in North America begins on June 11.

Salah is determined to recover in time and avoid a repeat of the injury setback he suffered before the 2018 World Cup, when he injured his shoulder in the Champions League final. Despite scoring twice in two matches in Russia, Egypt were eliminated at the group stage.
