President John Dramani Mahama has returned to Ghana following back-to-back official visits to the United Kingdom and Belarus, where he secured major investment and agricultural agreements. Shortly after his return, he turned his attention to the recent floods and building collapses that have devastated several communities across the country.
During his visit to the United Kingdom, President Mahama attended the Ghana Investment Summit, where he showcased Ghana’s recent economic gains and reform efforts to investors and business leaders. The trip yielded several key outcomes, including the signing of a Ghana–UK Growth Agreement, collaboration on artificial intelligence and digital trade, support for training engineers to maintain medical equipment, and plans to establish Ghana’s first commercial-scale ship repair yard in Takoradi.
While in the UK, the President also met with the British monarch, held bilateral discussions with the Prime Minister, engaged with members of the Ghanaian business community, and rang the bell at the London Stock Exchange to promote Ghana as an attractive investment destination.
In Belarus, discussions centred on agriculture, trade, industrial development, and technical cooperation. A major outcome of the visit was the signing of agreements to support the supply of modern agricultural equipment under the government’s Farmer Service Centres Programme. The President also engaged with his Belarusian counterpart, established mechanisms to enhance economic cooperation, and concluded visa-waiver arrangements between the two nations.
Upon his return home, President Mahama addressed the recent flooding and building collapses that have affected several communities. He called for greater discipline, accountability, and strict adherence to development regulations, particularly regarding encroachment on waterways, wetlands, and green zones.
The President has directed the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other relevant institutions to identify affected waterways and take the necessary measures to prevent future occurrences.
“Safeguarding lives and property requires a collective national effort and a commitment to responsible development, environmental stewardship, and adherence to the laws and regulations that exist for the benefit of all of us,” the President stated.
