TnA Stadium under consideration for U-20 AFCoN

The Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to community development through sports infrastructure, as the Tarkwa and Aboso (TnA) Stadium enters a new era with Ghana Premier League champions Medeama Sporting Club.

Mr Ampofo Ankrah made the remarks during an official working visit to Tarkwa for the coronation of Medeama SC as champions of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League. He met with staff and key stakeholders of the TnA Stadium to discuss the facility’s future.

The NSA, established under the Sports Act, 2016 (Act 934), is mandated to manage and develop sports infrastructure across Ghana. The Authority also derives powers from the Sports Regulations (L.I. 2477 of 2023) to regulate, fund, and promote the activities of sports federations in the country.

Speaking at the meeting, the NSA Director-General emphasised that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Government, through its Big Push Agenda, is focused on community development via job creation, decentralised governance, and targeted social interventions.

“The Government’s core policies prioritise local economic empowerment, inner-city and Zongo community development, youth entrepreneurship and significant investment in localised infrastructure,” he stated.

Mr Ampofo Ankrah commended Medeama SC founder, owner, and president, Mr Moses Armah Parker, for his immense contribution to the maintenance and development of the stadium. He specifically praised Mr Parker’s role in helping resolve the long-standing impasse between the NSA, traditional authorities, and the Municipal Assembly over the management of the facility.

The Director-General further disclosed that the TnA Stadium is being considered as one of the venues for the Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations, which Ghana is expected to host next year. He assured stakeholders that additional upgrades would be carried out to enhance the stadium’s facilities in preparation for the tournament.
