NAIMOS arrests six Chinese nationals in anti-illegal mining ope

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has arrested six Chinese nationals for allegedly engaging in illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey, along the Nyaase River.

The arrests took place during a special anti-galamsey operation aimed at protecting water bodies and surrounding communities from environmental degradation.

According to authorities, security personnel seized mining equipment and other tools believed to have been used in the unauthorised operation during the raid.

Officials confirmed that the crackdown is part of ongoing nationwide efforts to combat illegal mining and enforce Ghana’s mining laws.

NAIMOS has repeatedly warned that illegal mining along rivers and forest reserves poses serious risks, including water pollution, land degradation, and loss of livelihoods for local residents.

In a statement, the secretariat reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations against galamsey, stressing that both foreign nationals and locals found breaking the country’s mining laws will face the full force of the law.

The latest arrests have reignited public calls for stricter enforcement measures and tougher penalties to help curb illegal mining activities across the nation.
