Kahn warns Kompany: Risky system exposed against Paris

Former Bayern Munich and Germany goalkeeper Oliver Kahn has issued a pointed assessment of Vincent Kompany’s tactical approach, warning that a lack of control is leaving the team dangerously exposed.

In an interview with Sky Sport DE, Kahn acknowledged the attacking ambition under Kompany but stressed its fragility.

“We’ve seen in recent weeks that Kompany’s system involves a lot of risk,” Kahn said. “When this system loses even a little bit of control, you quickly see how vulnerable it can be. And that’s exactly what happened against Paris.”

Kahn dismissed the notion that high-risk football can be consistently offset by outscoring opponents.

“It didn’t take two or three minutes. You can’t always score four goals when you concede two or three,” he added.

The former CEO of Bayern Munich used the observation to make a broader point about modern tactics, suggesting rigid adherence to a single style is a flaw.

“In modern football, it’s not about rigidly adhering to one system, but about having a plan B and being able to implement many different ideas,” Kahn said.

His comments come amid growing debate over Kompany’s high defensive line and build-from-the-back philosophy, with critics arguing the system is too predictable in high-stakes matches.
