Ghana’s Zanetor Agyeman- Rawlings elected second Vice-President of Pan-African Parliament

Ghanaian Member of Parliament Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has been elected Second Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), marking a major diplomatic achievement for Ghana on the continental stage.

The election took place on Wednesday during a parliamentary session in Johannesburg, South Africa. Agyeman-Rawlings, who represents the Korle Klottey constituency, secured a decisive victory with 131 votes, defeating her closest rival who received 51 votes.

Her election to the PAP Bureau — the leadership body that guides the affairs of the continental legislative assembly — is being hailed as a milestone for both Ghana and the West African Caucus. She becomes one of the highest-ranking female officials in the history of the Pan-African Parliament.

The Pan-African Parliament serves as an organ of the African Union, bringing together representatives from member states across the continent to promote democracy, good governance, and regional cooperation.

Agyeman-Rawlings, a medical doctor turned legislator, has been actively involved in parliamentary work focusing on security, governance, and development issues. Her elevation to the vice presidency is widely seen as recognition of her growing influence in continental politics and her contributions as a lawmaker.

Political analysts say the development strengthens Ghana’s diplomatic and legislative presence within African Union institutions and underscores a positive trend of increasing female leadership across African political structures.
