The families of two men who lost their lives in a microlight aircraft crash at Tema Community 1 have issued a public appeal for privacy as they grieve, while expressing gratitude for the widespread support received since the tragedy.
In a statement dated March 21, 2026, the Wettey and Donkor families confirmed the deaths of Captain Frank Amoanyi Donkor and Elijah Ofori Donkor, describing them as “bright lights” whose lives were marked by promise, warmth and vitality.
The two young men, sons of Elder and Mrs. Frank Donkor, died following the crash on March 16—an incident that has drawn national sympathy and attention.
The families acknowledged the profound difficulty of coping with their sudden loss but indicated that their faith continues to sustain them during this period of mourning.
The statement also commended key state institutions, including the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, the Ghana National Fire Service, and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau, for what the families described as a swift, professional and supportive response to the incident.
“Their efforts are deeply appreciated,” the statement read, highlighting the role emergency and investigative bodies played in managing the aftermath.
Amid their grief, the families made an earnest appeal to the public, media and well-wishers to respect their need for space and privacy, emphasizing that this period remains extremely difficult.
The statement expressed gratitude for the prayers, messages of condolence and acts of solidarity received from across the country.
Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course, the families indicated.
