ENT Department unveils GH¢4m endoscopic tower to enhance patient care

The Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Department has unveiled a new endoscopic tower valued at GH¢4 million, a move officials say will significantly improve surgical outcomes and healthcare delivery.

The advanced system enables surgeons to perform procedures using high-definition imaging and minimally invasive techniques, which reduce operative time and improve surgical accuracy, according to the department.

Head of Department Dr. Kafui Searyoh said the investment aligns with the department’s commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. The equipment also allows for the recording and storage of patient data, medical reports, and surgical videos, supporting better documentation, training, and follow-up care.

“The integration of such modern technology not only improves clinical outcomes but also enhances workflow efficiency within the department,” Dr. Searyoh said, noting that healthcare professionals can now attend to more patients in shorter periods.

ENT Specialist Dr. Naa Akushia Sepenu highlighted benefits for patients, explaining that the new system reduces the need for traditional open surgeries, which are often associated with longer recovery times and higher risks.

“With this technology, many procedures can now be performed with minimal or no external incisions. This means less pain, reduced risk of complications, and faster recovery for patients,” she said.

Dr. Sepenu added that the equipment is ergonomically designed to reduce hand strain and physical fatigue among surgeons during lengthy or complex procedures.

Hospital management expressed confidence that the endoscopic tower will strengthen the department’s capacity to serve as a center of excellence in ENT care.
