€500k fine? No Problem: The math behind Tchouame’ni and Valverde’s paycheck deductions

Real Madrid midfielders Aurélien Tchouaméni and Federico Valverde have been handed €500,000 fines following their involvement in post-Supercopa misconduct, but new salary calculations reveal the financial hit is little more than a rounding error for the Uruguayan—and barely a dent for the Frenchman.

Based on the latest reported wage figures, the pair will recoup the penalty in under two weeks.

Tchouaméni, who earns an estimated €240,000 per week after tax, will see his €500,000 fine effectively disappear after just over two weeks’ pay. Breakdown: Two full weeks net him €480,000—so a third week’s earnings will easily cover the remaining €20,000. In real terms, it’s roughly 14.5 days of work.

Valverde, on a significant €321,000 weekly wage, will clear his €500,000 penalty even faster. At his rate, the fine is equivalent to just 1.5 weeks—or roughly 10–11 days. After his next pay cycle, he’ll already be back in the black.

Neither player is expected to challenge the sanction. “For them, it’s the equivalent of a speeding ticket for a high earner,” noted one Spanish football finance analyst. “The punishment is symbolic, not structural.”

The fines were issued for what the club described as “unprofessional post-match conduct” following the Spanish Supercopa final. Both midfielders have since returned to training, with no further disciplinary action expected.

Bottom line: Tchouaméni will have worked it off by the end of the month. Valverde, by next Tuesday.
