Ghana’s national amateur boxing team, the Black Bombers, have commenced an intensive residential camping programme at the National Sports College in Winneba (NSCW) as part of preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, United Kingdom.
The 23rd edition of the multi-sport event is scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 2, 2026, bringing together former colonies of the United Kingdom, including Ghana, India, Canada, Jamaica, and Kenya.
A 20-member contingent comprising 16 male and four female boxers has been selected for the training camp. The squad includes finalists from the 2026 national individual championships, such as Isaac Asiedu, Desmond Pappoe, Mubarak Amarh, Zakaria Kamoko, George Dowuona, Ebenezer Ankrah, Samuel Sackey, Ibrahim Doku, James Okoh, and Daniel Amoo, among others.
The technical team is headed by veteran boxing tacticians Dr. Ofori Asare and Charles Quartey, with Daniel Lartekwei Lartey serving as assistant coach.
The Commonwealth Games, a voluntary association of 56 independent member countries spanning Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe, and the Pacific, will see Ghana’s boxing contingent aiming to improve upon previous performances.
The Black Bombers are expected to undergo rigorous training drills, sparring sessions, and tactical drills at the Winneba facility before departing for Glasgow.
