Asantehene destools long-serving linguist Kyeame Kofi Nti

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has removed his linguist, Kyeame Kofi Nti, from office following a decisive ruling by the Asanteman Council.

The destoolment was announced after a council meeting held at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, April 20, according to a Facebook post from the palace.

Multiple allegations were leveled against the traditional spokesperson, with the council citing serious breaches of the customs and responsibilities expected of a holder of the revered position.

Among the key issues raised were questions regarding Kyeame Kofi Nti’s royal lineage. Council members expressed concern over his inability to properly invoke the Otumfuo Ntam Kษ›seษ›, a fundamental duty of the Kyeame role.

He was also accused of improperly handling and retaining multiple invocations of the Ntam Kษ›seษ› โ€“ a practice that exceeds what is traditionally permitted for occupants of the stool. The council further noted that he failed in his duty to appropriately report such invocations, describing the omission as a serious breach of protocol.

Additionally, the proceedings considered allegations linked to the wrongful enstoolment of Ayaase Dikro, as raised by the Ayaasehene.

Following thorough deliberations, the Asanteman Council resolved unanimously to destool Kyeame Kofi Nti, effectively stripping him of his position as the Asantehene’s linguist.
