Blakk Rasta slams selfish Abu Trica over lavish wealth display while parents struggle in poverty

Ghanaian musician and radio presenter Blakk Rasta has launched a scathing attack on embattled socialite Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, accusing him of selfishness for flaunting millions of dollars on social media while leaving his parents to languish in poverty.

In a viral TikTok video posted on December 15, 2025, following Abu Trica’s arrest in Ghana, the outspoken media personality questioned the priorities of the self-styled “big boy,” who had become notorious for his lavish displays of wealth on platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

“News is all over the media that a certain fraudster by the name Abu Trica has been arrested. It took six different agencies in Ghana and beyond coming together to apprehend him,” Blakk Rasta said in the video.

He revealed that Abu Trica, whose real name is Frederick Kumi but is also known as Emmanuel Kojo Baah Obeng, was born and raised in Swedru in the Central Region and comes from a modest working-class background.

“He was born and raised in Swedru. His father is a carpenter, and his mother sells tilapia at the Swedru Market,” Blakk Rasta stated.

The reggae artist emphasised that the suspect’s background shows he did not emerge from wealth or privilege, but from a typical household within the community. He argued that despite owning multiple luxury cars and mansions from his allegedly ill-gotten wealth, Abu Trica had abandoned his parents, who were still struggling to survive.

“All this money, he couldn’t even help change the economic fortunes of his immediate family. Wicked boy,” Blakk Rasta said.

Touching on the suspect’s age, the broadcaster noted that although some media reports had described him as older, information from people who grew up with him in Swedru suggested he is likely between 25 and 28 years old and probably not even 30.

Blakk Rasta also made broader comments about Swedru, describing it as one of the places in Ghana that has gained a reputation for internet fraud activities. He further claimed that Abu Trica had adopted the Muslim-sounding name despite being raised in a Christian home.

Extradition to the United States

Abu Trica was arrested on December 11, 2025, following a joint operation involving Ghanaian security agencies and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He was taken into custody at his palatial estate in Swedru.

According to documents unsealed by the US Department of Justice, Abu Trica was part of a romance fraud syndicate that swindled elderly Americans out of more than $8 million (£5.9 million). Prosecutors alleged that perpetrators of the scam used Artificial Intelligence software to assume false identities and form close personal relationships with victims, gaining their trust to obtain money and valuables through social media and online dating platforms.

The suspect was extradited to the United States on Thursday, July 9, 2026, aboard Delta Airlines flight DL 157. This followed a July 2 ruling by the High Court in Accra granting a request by US authorities for his surrender.

He faces charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering conspiracy, and a forfeiture specification, and could face up to 20 years in prison if found guilty.

Legal Controversy

The extradition has not been without controversy. Abu Trica’s lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has alleged that the government failed to notify him before his client was extradited. According to the lawyer, he was neither formally informed of the extradition nor given the opportunity to meet his client before he was handed over to US authorities.

Barker-Vormawor told the BBC that he went to court on Thursday to stop the extradition only to learn shortly afterwards that Kumi had already been flown out of the country. He accused Ghana’s government of sidestepping “judicial oversight” by allegedly not waiting for the court’s verdict, saying the decision “raises profound constitutional questions”.

Abu Trica had been in custody since December 2025 and was at one point granted bail by the Accra High Court in the sum of GH¢30 million with two justified sureties while extradition proceedings continued.

The legal team has also filed a human rights action alleging that officers from various agencies subjected him to torture and degrading treatment during his arrest. The case is pending before the courts.

Public Reactions

Abu Trica’s arrest and subsequent extradition have drawn widespread reactions from Ghanaian public figures. Dancehall musician Shatta Wale advised people who earn money through fraudulent means to be careful about flaunting their wealth on social media. He also dismissed allegations linking him to fraud, attributing his success to God and his music career.

Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu was seen in a video justifying the actions of Trica, claiming that Ghanaians had always been scammed by whites with shady business deals. Meanwhile, musician Papi Adabraka criticised those who engage in illegal activities yet invite bloggers to showcase their lifestyle, comparing it to “a thief doing an advert”.

As of the time of publication, Ghanaian authorities had not publicly responded to Barker-Vormawor’s claims that the defence was not informed before the extradition was carried out. Under both Ghanaian and US law, the allegations against Abu Trica remain before the courts, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
