Former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor has issued a New Year message for 2026, extending sincere goodwill and renewed hope to all Ghanaians, both at home and abroad.
In his statement, Dr. Duffuor described the new year as a “national moment of reckoning,” calling for reflection on Ghana’s shared journey. He noted that the country “stands at a critical crossroads” and emphasized that “truth with danger saves generations.”
Highlighting key challenges, he pointed to the erosion of discipline, weakening of moral restraint, and the rise of self-interest over selflessness in public life. He also cited indiscipline on roads, environmental neglect, and the misuse of public trust as threats to both institutions and the values that have long defined the nation.
Dr. Duffuor urged citizens and leaders to be truthful, dependable, and guided by a higher sense of duty. He stressed the importance of instilling integrity in the younger generation before skill acquisition, noting that “skills without integrity are insufficient” and “integrity without skills is incomplete.”
The message called for deliberate investment in religious and ethical values to nurture a generation that values truth, keeps its word, respects life, and prioritizes the public good over private gain.
While acknowledging current challenges, Dr. Duffuor reminded Ghanaians that the country’s history is defined by resilience, conscience, and renewal rather than despair. He emphasized that national transformation begins with character, not policy alone, and described 2026 as “a defining moment” for renewal.
He concluded with a wish that the new year will “renew our conscience, strengthen our unity, and awaken in us a shared commitment to the Ghana we owe ourselves and generations yet unborn.”
