Dutch authorities seek €8m from Quincy Primes in drug trafficking case

Dutch prosecutors are pursuing €8 million from former Netherlands international Quincy Promes, alleging the sum was earned through illicit drug trafficking, according to court documents released this week.

The 32-year-old footballer, currently held in custody in the Netherlands, reportedly claimed he could earn between €29,000 and €33,000 per block of cocaine, with authorities alleging that approximately 650 blocks were trafficked as part of the operation.

Promes, who earned 50 caps for the Dutch national team, is already serving a six-year prison sentence for his role in trafficking more than 1,350 kilograms of cocaine. The conviction stemmed from a shipment that authorities said passed through the port of Antwerp before being intercepted.

In addition to the drug conviction, Promes received an 18-month sentence for stabbing his cousin during a family gathering. The attack, prosecutors said, occurred following a heated argument at a party.

The former Ajax, Sevilla, and Spartak Moscow forward was arrested upon entering the Netherlands last year, having previously resided in Russia, which does not have an extradition treaty with the Dutch government.

Authorities have not yet specified how they intend to recover the €8 million if Promes is unable to pay. A court hearing on the financial claim is expected in the coming months.
