Irony as traditional priest offers to buy Prophet Badu Kobi’s church, plans to turn it into a shrine

A controversial twist has emerged in the unfolding saga surrounding the sale of Glorious Wave Church International’s property in Sakumono, near Tema. Renowned traditional priest Nana Kwaku Bonsam has publicly declared his interest in purchasing the auditorium, stating that if Christians refuse to support their own, he will convert the place of worship into a national shrine or a “fetish school” .

The development follows intense public debate after reports surfaced that Prophet Emmanuel Badu Kobi, founder and leader of the church, had put the multi-million-cedi property up for sale.

Kwaku Bonsam Inspects Property

In a video that went viral on May 17, 2026, Nana Kwaku Bonsam was seen touring the premises of the church, inspecting the building and its facilities. He expressed admiration for the structure, noting its massive size, the auditorium, and even amenities such as a jacuzzi .

“I, Nana Kwaku Bonsam, have come here personally to inspect the building. If you are a pastor and you fail to buy this edifice to use as a church, then I will buy it and convert it into a fetish school,” he stated in the footage .

He further criticized the Christian community for a perceived lack of solidarity. According to Kwaku Bonsam, it is surprising that fellow believers have not stepped forward in large numbers to support the prophet during his difficult period. “Christians should have stood by him more,” he lamented, adding that traditional leaders are ready to step in where the church has failed , .

The Price Tag and Financial Claims

While Prophet Badu Kobi has maintained that the decision to sell is based on “divine direction” to relocate to Sakumono Estate rather than mere financial distress, reports suggest the property is valued between $1.2 million and $1.5 million .

Reacting to the figures, Kwaku Bonsam dismissed the amount as “not a big deal,” hinting that he has the financial capacity to acquire the property without stress . However, he clarified that his interest is not to disgrace the prophet but to assist him financially.

“The downfall of a man does not mean it is the end of his life,” Kwaku Bonsam said, drawing a biblical analogy to the story of Job, who lost everything but was eventually restored by God .

Conflicting Explanations from Badu Kobi’s Camp

The confusion over the church’s future has been exacerbated by conflicting reports from within the ministry. While Prophet Badu Kobi initially addressed his congregation on May 10, 2026, dismissing claims of financial collapse and denying the existence of “co-founders” of the church , an alleged junior pastor claimed otherwise.

Speaking to bloggers, the man who claimed to have worked with Badu Kobi for 23 years insisted the sale was true. He attributed the prophet’s struggles to his open affiliation with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), alleging that the party abandoned him after using him for political gains .

“When you follow politicians, you end up selling your church,” the alleged junior pastor was quoted as saying.

Implications of a Potential Sale

The prospect of a traditional priest taking over a prominent Christian worship center has triggered intense debate on social media in Ghana. Many believers have expressed discomfort over the potential conversion of the church into a shrine, viewing it as a symbolic victory for traditional spiritual forces.

“Transaction, if it goes through, would mark one of the most bizarre property transfers in Ghanaian history,” one observer noted, highlighting the irony of a man of God selling his temple to a fetish priest, regardless of the financial reasons .

As of now, Prophet Badu Kobi has not officially responded to the specific bid from Kwaku Bonsam, nor have the church’s Board of Trustees indicated whether they would entertain an offer from a buyer outside the Christian faith .
