Three-quarters of registered voters believe the United States is winning its war with Iran, while just over a quarter say Tehran is prevailing, according to a new Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll.
The survey, conducted online April 23-26 among 2,745 registered voters, found that 74% of respondents view the U.S. as having the upper hand in the conflict, compared with 26% who said Iran is winning.
On Iran’s nuclear program, 65% of those polled said the country is rebuilding its nuclear capability following U.S. airstrikes. The remaining 35% said Iran had lost that ability.
A majority also backed continued naval pressure. Sixty-three percent of respondents said the United States should maintain a blockade on Iranian ships if Tehran refuses to uphold its end of a ceasefire; 37% opposed continuing the blockade.
Voters strongly supported conditions for any future nuclear deal with Iran. Seventy-nine percent said it is essential that Iran stop supporting Hezbollah and Hamas. A similar share — 78% — said Iran must cease producing proxy forces, while 72% said the country should be required to limit ballistic missile production.
The Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll is a collaboration of the Harvard Center for American Political Studies and the Harris Poll. The survey’s findings are detailed in a chart on page 10 of the report.
