Police arrest two for unlawful possession of firearm, ammunition

The Ghana Police Service has arrested two individuals for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, following a targeted operation aimed at curbing the spread of illegal weapons and enhancing public safety.

The suspects were taken into custody after officers reportedly discovered a firearm and several rounds of ammunition in their possession. They have since been cautioned and are assisting with investigations, according to police sources.

Security officials say the operation is part of broader national efforts to reduce the proliferation of illegal firearms, which authorities view as a growing threat to peace and security in communities across the country.

Investigators are working to trace the origin of the seized weapons and determine whether the suspects are linked to any wider criminal network. Forensic analysis and intelligence gathering are expected to play a key role in the ongoing probe.

The firearm and ammunition have been retained as evidence. While the identities of the two suspects have not yet been fully disclosed, police confirmed that inquiries are still at an early stage and that additional arrests have not been ruled out.
