Diplomatic missions partner with NSA for soccer festival ahead of 2026 World Cup

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon, diplomatic missions from several qualified nations have engaged the National Sports Authority (NSA) to organise a series of jamborees and cultural events aimed at celebrating the global showpiece.

The World Cup, which will be hosted jointly by the United States, Mexico, and Canada in June, has prompted FIFA to call for publicity efforts that extend beyond traditional football audiences. In response, the NSA and various embassies are rolling out pre-tournament activities across Ghana.

As part of the countdown, the NSA will support the launch of the Fans’ Diary on Thursday, April 30, followed by a jamboree on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium. Similar events are planned at selected NSA venues in all 16 regions of the country.

The initiative seeks to give diplomatic missions the opportunity to engage and educate Ghanaian football fans, the media, sports federations, and potential travellers to the World Cup.

Deputy High Commissioner of Mexico, Fernando Valenzuela, explained the vision behind an upcoming cultural fair to be hosted by the NSA.

“We will have different countries showcasing their flags, along with music and entertainment. There will be more than 20 national booths, featuring different types of food from various countries,” he told the media. “Basically, the idea is to bring everything together for football fans to explore.”

Valenzuela also stressed the significance of participating in the historic fair, noting that aside from the three host nations, all participating countries are eager to promote their brands to the public.

Embassies represented at the planning meeting included those of the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, the United Kingdom, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, among others.

The delegates were presented with customised Fans’ Diaries and Black Stars jerseys as tokens of appreciation.
