The third turbine at the Akosombo Hydroelectric Plant has been brought on stream, increasing the plant’s total generation to 420MW, according to official sources. With the Kpong plant also operating normally, the current generation deficit stands at 240MW.
Meanwhile, the fourth turbine at Akosombo is being synchronised and is expected to come on stream shortly.
In a related development, authorities have dismissed a recent Joynews report on the generation shortfall as “false and misleading,” urging the public to disregard it entirely.
Officials clarified that thermal plants do not generate power “for the sake of it” but rather operate strictly to meet demand. They emphasised that a plant not running at full capacity does not automatically signify a shortfall.
