Police have re-arrested three of six suspects who escaped from custody at the Adabraka Police Station, with a massive manhunt underway for the three still at large.
The escape occurred under circumstances that the Greater Accra Police Command has since launched a full investigation into, according to a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Relations for the Command.
Authorities have moved swiftly to dispel rumours linking the escapees to the murder case of Andrew Amankwah, father-in-law of Sammy Gyamfi. Police clarified that the murder suspects were never held at the Adabraka Police Station and remain in lawful custody.
“The Command has initiated a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape. It has intensified a manhunt to arrest the remaining three escapees and ensure they are brought to justice,” Superintendent Obeng stated.
Members of the public with credible information on the whereabouts of the fugitives have been urged to report immediately to the nearest police station.
Murder Suspects Still in Custody
In a separate statement, the Western Central Police Command confirmed that the three accused persons in the Andrew Amankwah murder case — Kojo Amponsah alias Kamakazie, Emmanuel Appiah alias Taller, and Tanko Bashiru alias TK — are still in detention.
They have been remanded and are scheduled to reappear in court on May 7, 2026.
Police are urging calm and assuring the public that all efforts are being made to bring the remaining escapees back into custody.
